Championship golf on the doorstep: London, Liverpool and Manchester

Few countries can match England for championship golf, and our three cities are unusually well placed for it. For many buyers and tenants at the upper end of the market, being within easy reach of a great course is part of the appeal of a home.

Liverpool: the Open Championship coast

The stretch of coast either side of the Mersey holds two of the most famous links in the game. Royal Liverpool Golf Club at Hoylake, on the Wirral, has hosted The Open many times, most recently in 2023 when Brian Harman lifted the Claret Jug. Royal Birkdale, just outside Southport, hosted The Open in 2017 and was chosen to stage the 154th Open in July 2026.

Between Birkdale and the city sit Hillside and Southport and Ainsdale, while the Wirral offers Wallasey and Caldy. For anyone living in Liverpool, a morning round on world class links is a short drive away.

Manchester: Lancashire links and Cheshire parkland

Manchester residents are within about an hour of Royal Lytham and St Annes on the Fylde coast, another regular Open venue, and of the Liverpool coast. Closer to home, the parkland clubs of Cheshire and south Manchester offer excellent golf within easy reach of Didsbury, Hale and Wilmslow.

London: the Surrey and Berkshire heathland

West of London lies the famous heathland belt. Wentworth Club at Virginia Water is the home of the BMW PGA Championship, while Sunningdale's Old and New courses are regarded as among the finest inland golf in the world. Walton Heath, Swinley Forest and The Berkshire are all within an easy drive of west and south west London.

Why it matters for property

Lifestyle draws people to a place, and that shapes who wants to rent or buy there. If you own a home in a sought after area, presenting it well and letting it to the right people matters. That is where we come in.
