Every summer the world's attention turns to two London postcodes. The Queen's Club in West Kensington hosts its grass court championships in June, and The Championships at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon follow, running over a fortnight into July.
Living in SW19
Wimbledon Village, at the top of the hill, has the feel of a country town, with independent shops, restaurants and the open space of Wimbledon Common. Down the hill, Wimbledon town centre has fast rail links into Waterloo. Southfields, on the District line, is the station most visitors use for the grounds, and its Victorian terraces are popular with families and young professionals all year round.
West Kensington and Barons Court
Around Queen's Club, the mansion blocks and red brick houses of West Kensington and Barons Court offer quick access to central London on the District and Piccadilly lines, at a lower price point than neighbouring Kensington.
Thinking about a short let during the tennis?
In London, an entire home can only be let on short lets for up to 90 nights in a calendar year without planning permission. Beyond that, a change of use applies. Your mortgage, lease and insurance may also restrict short lets, so check them before you take a booking.
For most owners a well managed long term let, or a guaranteed monthly rent, is the simpler and steadier route. If you own a home in SW19, W14 or anywhere else in London, a property manager can tell you what it could earn.
